What is a key code and where can I find it?
A key code is the number or letter-number combination used to cut a replacement key without needing the original key. You can usually find it on the lock face, on the original key, on a key tag, in the product manual, or on the lock/barrel itself. The exact location depends on the brand and lock type.
The same code number appears twice in the list — how do I know which one to choose?
Choose by the colour of the dust cover on your lock, not by the number alone. Even though a code like 001 shows up in both lists, they are two physically different keys. The plain codes 001–200 are for locks with a silver dust cover, while the codes labelled "Red dust cover" (001–210) are for locks fitted with a red dust cover. Check the small plastic flap covering your keyhole (check the last product photo): if it is red, select the matching "Red dust cover" option; if it is silver/grey, select the plain number. The digits are identical in both ranges, so the dust cover colour is the only thing that tells them apart — picking the wrong one means the key will not fit your lock.
Will the key cut by code work straight away?
For mechanical locks, yes — a key cut by the correct code should work straight away. This applies to many towbar keys, roof rack keys, caravan keys, locker keys, mailbox keys, furniture keys and older vehicle keys.
What happens if I enter the wrong key code?
If the wrong code is entered, the key will not work. Always check the code carefully before ordering and avoid guessing. If you are unsure, send us a clear photo of the lock, key, or code marking before placing the order so we can help verify it.
How long does it take to cut and dispatch a coded key?
All keys cut by code are prepared quickly and dispatched the same business day if the order is placed before the daily cut-off time and the key blank is in stock. Delivery time depends on the destination country and the selected shipping method.
This is a purely mechanical key, it is cut to your code before dispatch and is ready to use straight out of the package. No locksmith visit is required.
Insert the key fully into the lock and turn — it works immediately, just like your original.
If the key does not enter smoothly or the lock feels stiff, spray a small amount of WD-40 into the lock cylinder, insert the key and gently work it in and out a few times while in the same time trying to gently turn it. Locks that are rarely used or exposed to dirt and moisture often need a little lubrication before the key turns freely.
