Frequently Asked Questions +

What code series does Thule use and which category does each cover?

Thule uses three code series. The N-series (N001–N250+) covers roof rack mounting locks, roof boxes, ski racks, and bicycle carrier systems — all current Thule lock systems use the N-series. The 1D-series (1D01–1D57, 1D501–1D560) covers Thule towbar detachable coupling locks, shared with Brink systems. The E-series (E001–E200) covers older Thule roof box and ski rack lock points. Always identify the series prefix on your lock or key before ordering.

Where is the Thule key code on different applications?

On Thule roof rack and carrier systems the N-series code is stamped on the lock barrel face — on newer Thule Evo, Edge, and WingBar systems the code is on the original key only, not on the lock barrel. On Thule towbar systems the 1D-series code is on the lock barrel face or original key. On older roof box systems the E-series code is on the lock face or original key. If the code is unreadable, send a photo to mr-key.com.

What is the Thule One-Key System and how does it affect ordering?

The Thule One-Key System (TLS) allows all lock points on a rack — foot locks, bar end locks, and accessory locks — to be set to the same N-series code. One key operates every lock on the setup. This means losing one key locks out the entire rack simultaneously. When ordering for a One-Key System setup, confirm the N-series code covers all lock points — if any lock was replaced independently it may carry a different code. Verify each lock barrel before ordering.

On newer Thule systems the code is on the key only — what if I have lost all keys?

On current Thule Evo, Edge, and WingBar systems the N-series code is on the original key only — not stamped on the lock barrel. If all keys are lost and the code is unknown, three options exist: check whether the rack was registered online with Thule — the code is linked to the registered product. Contact the retailer who sold the rack — they may have a record of the code. Or have a locksmith decode the lock cylinder physically. Once the code is retrieved, order from this page.

My Thule key code starts with N but a supplier listed it without the N prefix — are they the same key?

Yes. N047 and 047 refer to the same Thule key — some suppliers list N-series codes without the N prefix. Always confirm the numeric value matches exactly before ordering. A code listed as 047 is the same as N047 and will produce the same blade profile. If searching by code returns no results, try adding or removing the N prefix. The numeric value is the critical identifier — the prefix is a label convention only.
